Step One

Connecting to the Web Server:

  1. In the Host Name/Address box, enter studentwebs.colstate.edu.
*For faculty and staff, enter facstaff.colstate.edu

  2. Your User ID is: csuweb\lastname_firstname

  3. Enter your password, which is what you submitted and can be found in the e-mail response you should have received.

  4. Finally click on OK. If you see an Input box pop up requesting your password again, simply re-enter and continue.

Step Two

After connecting to the Server, the following window will appear. Here is where you manipulate your files in terms of uploading them to or removing them from the server. In the left column titled Local System are the files that are located on your computer. It should also indicate the active folder. In the right column titled Remote Site are the files currently in your folder on the Web Server.

Step Three

In the Local System column, click on the option ChgDir. An Input dialog box should appear. This is where you specify where the files you wish to upload are located. Normally on the H drive (H:\) or your floppy disk (A:\). Enter the appropriate location, then click on OK.

The left column of the second window should now display the contents of the location you selected.

Additional Tips:

  • You may upload files to the Web server by selecting the files from the left column (Local System) and clicking on the button with an arrow pointing to the right.

  • Ensure that the filename of your main page is either of the following: Default.htm, index.htm, index.html, or index.asp.

  • All filenames should be in lower case and should not contain any spaces or special characters. Use an underscore '_' to separate words in a filename.
